A popular YouTuber known for a series that criticizes other YouTubers has defended himself after viewers discovered his girlfriend had distributed adult content.
Ian Carter, better known as iDubbbz, put out a video on March 28 discussing why fans were turning to Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, and other social media sites to make memes, calling Carter a “simp.”
“If you don’t want to look up to me anymore, that’s fine,” he said in the video. “I don’t want you to look up to me.”
Here is everything to know about the current iDubbbz drama.
iDubbbz is a popular YouTuber.
Carter is a YouTuber whose channel iDubbbzTV has 7.95 million subscribers. Carter is certainly no stranger to drama, as he is known for his “Content Cop” video series, in which he criticizes other YouTubers and their content.
His video on Tana Mongeau from February 2017 has 31 million views. The October 2017 “Content Cop” video supposedly about Jake Paul, Mongeau’s ex-husband (or something) — but actually about RiceGum — has 47 million views.
In addition to the “Content Cop” edition on Mongeau, Carter showed up to one of her San Francisco meet-and-greet events in January 2017, to pose for a photograph with her. Carter, who had video footage of Mongeau using a racial slur in the past, asked her to say the slur while they posed for a picture. In Carter’s video of the encounter, she immediately walks away, flustered by the interaction. In Mongeau’s video about it, she said, “I don’t even know how to describe this moment to you guys. I never understood how people would feel in moments like that.”
People are calling iDubbbz a ‘simp’ — here’s what that means.
Fans of the YouTuber took to social media in March after discovering that Carter’s girlfriend had signed up for an account on OnlyFans, a subscription-based social media platform used for adult entertainment videos. Many of the memes and reactions to the news used the word “simp” to describe Carter.
